Calamus Springs

When wars don’t cease and sorrows increase
You are there to carry my crippling load
When lies are exposed and tyrants deposed
It’s your hand that stands me at the crossroad

and you know me; you know my track
and you show me the ancient paths

In fear I hide from the battle cry
When hate rains pain from the sky
When new life conceals the killing fields
The Calamus springs from your tears

and you know me; you know my track
and you show me the ancient paths

When brothers hide the past inside
and devise a prison of fear’s design
the arid miles of barbed wire smiles
defend a landscape of desert lives

Though you know me you guard my back
As you walk me down the ancient paths
