I watch the current events in our nation
In this X-rated Generation
And I wonder how much longer it can last
You can call for revolution
Or some lunatic fringe solution
But you know that lasting change doesn’t take that path
[chorus]
Read it in the paper, those current events
Watch it on the news in short segments
Everyone laments about current events
But try to change things and you’re a malcontent
Going with the flow of current events
Sinking in the current of current events
People die in the streets without reason
In this wilding killing season
While we worry about the whales and greenhouse gas
But if I call for real repentance
And not just a longer prison sentence
Then you say I’m a genuine iconoclast
So if you’re looking for some easy answers
While you watch the Soul Train dancers
Don’t forget you’re accountable for every idle word
And as the dead are piled higher in layers
And you fall asleep in your prayers
Don’t you be surprised at the judgment we’ve incurred
