[chorus]
There are truths that last through the ages
Faithful sayings that stand the test of time
They’ve been spoken by wise men and sages
And repeated by many tongues and tribes
They’re the seven pillars of wisdom
The foundation on which all wisdom stands
And the truths they unfold give strength and vision
To live the righteous lives our God demands
[verse 1]
Fear God, for this is the beginning
It’s the fountain from which all wisdom flows
Honor Him with your first fruits and all of your days
Will be marked by riches greater than gold
Love God and keep from doing evil
And his righteousness will light your path
Then your days will be filled with the joy of the Lord
And in death have no fear of his wrath
[chorus]
[verse 2]
God requires for all men to act justly
Love mercy and show humility
Then the word of the Lord will be written on your heart
And your paths will be marked by dignity
You have one life to live and then judgment
Only one life to live and then you die
So take care how you spend each idle moment
For no deed is hidden from his eye
[verse 3]
Raise your children in the way they should go
When they’re old they will not turn aside
But like arrows the hunter has trimmed for his bow
And with aim straight and true he lets them fly
