I walked to Waynesboro to buy a new used car
The man said, “boy with your luck, you ain’t gonna get too far
So I showed him all my money and said, “what can I do?”
He pointed down the road and said, “boy go buy yourself a pair of shoes”
I walked to Waynesboro
I walked that road alone
I walked to Waynesboro
And now I’m walking back home
I walked to Waynesboro to buy a new guitar
The man said, “boy with your looks, you will never be a star”
So I played a song I’d written and said, “What do you think”
He said, “boy you better practice, ’cause you ain’t even good enough to stink”
I walked to Waynesboro to Mobley’s Restaurant
The man said, “You look hungry, boy. You can have anything you want”
So I had some Fried Chicken; collard greens and sweet iced tea
I said, “Man this is the best food I do believe I ever did eat”
I walked to Waynesboro
I walked that road alone
I walked to Waynesboro
And now I’m walking back home
