Long Slow Train

I’m sitting at the crossing
Just thinking about my baby
While a long, slow freight train passes by
I’m laughing at the graffiti
And I’m watching all the numbers
On the broadsides of the boxcars rolling by

[chorus]
Sometimes it seems my life
Is like a long, slow train
Just rumbling down the tracks
Of a lifetime of pain
I know it’s a waste of time
To grumble and complain
So I quietly just smile
And count cars on a long slow train

Now I know my baby loves me
And she never gives me trouble
And that’s one thing I thank the good Lord for
I go home and eat dinner
Then relax on the living room sofa
And not wonder if she’s heading out the door

I’ve seen my share of trouble
And I’ve caused some of my own
But somehow I’ve lived to see my latter days
And when the train of my life
Rolls slowly in the station
There won’t be no regrets for yesterdays
