The Music’s Never Been The Same

It was a sad, sad day when the pump organ died
The choir turned away while the organist cried
But the song leader said “We can sing Acapella”
And the music’s never been the same

It was 19 and 15 when it gave up the ghost
It served many years but now it was toast
So we sang with the voices that we’d all been given
And the music’s never been the same

We sang a new song
We sang all night long
We praised the lord loud and strong
As we lifted up our voices
to the Lord of Song

We bought a new piano with a hickory stain
“Those things are vile and evil” one deacon complained
But the people sang with gusto like never before
And the music’s never been the same

We got a new worship leader and he played the guitar
“Those things are of the devil” a deacon said through his cigar
Everybody seemed to like it and they sang out loud and strong
And the music’s never been the same

The worship leader formed a little worship band
“don’t play that devil’s music” was one deacon’s command
But the people started worshipping and raising their hands
And the music’s never been the same
