What Heaven Is Like

Dad was a soldier, he fought in the war
But he never told me what the fighting was for
He did his duty when they called him to serve
He answered proudly without losing his nerve

Dad got a cancer, it ravaged his life
But he fought like a soldier til the day that he died
He waited til his children could be by his side
Then he walked serenely across the divide

So, Dad, can you tell me what Heaven is like?
Is it filled high with treasures untold?
Is there laughing and dancing and food that you like?
Are the streets really paved with gold?
Do you get to see Jesus and sit at his feet;
Do you get to walk close by his side?
Can you help me be ready to walk on those streets?
Can you tell me what Heaven is like?

Heaven’s like nothing that you’ve ever seen
It’s nothing like you’ve ever heard
I would tell you of the grandeur and riches I’ve seen
But I fall silent from sheer lack of words

So here’s what I’ll say about what Heaven’s like
It’s a mystery no words can describe
Hold on to your faith, son, and walk in the light
And one day you’ll see what Heaven’s like
